Ann (Nancy) Rhodes

Hello everyone! Allow me to tell you a little bit about me. My legal name is Ann but everyone has called me Nancy since I was a child. Now that I am a grandmother of 2 beautiful little girls, I am Nana to them. The name, "Ann," "Nancy" and "Nana" mean "grace." My YouTube tag name has been "Nancy the NP" since 2019.

I have been a nurse since 1979 where I graduated from Plattsburg University in NY with a 3.8 GPA. I love people and taking care of them. All of my professional career as a nurse was in the home. In 1999, I graduated Summa cum laude from the College of Mount Saint Vincent, Riverdale, NY with a Masters in Nursing and Certificate as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

From there, I worked in various settings in primary care and Oncology. When I received a $10,000 check from one of my patients with a letter urging me to start a house calls company, I knew that God wanted me to change my path. As I prayed for a job closer to home while driving over the Tappan Zee Bridge from Rye to Rockland County, NY, my phone rang. It was a previous job that had a connection to help this single mom find a part-time job with the mentally disabled, and would be my anchor for health insurance.

Within a week, we got a call that there were over 50 homebound patients that needed care in my community. I quit my job in Rye and the rest is history! My company was virtual, with staff working in their homes, and I and two other nurse practitioners worked out of our cars. I cared for over 1000 people where they rarely saw a hospital, and most died at home under hospice. I tapped the community for all types of services: home health aides, social work, haircuts, dental care, podiatry, home X rays, ultrasound, medical equipment, caregiver support group, etc. The company boomed for many years, and when I met my second husband, Steve, who lived in Sandy Hook, CT, it was time to take another path in my life.

In 2019, my company and all my staff were acquired by Vytalize Health. My next calling was to start a YouTube channel for caregivers which I called "Caregiver Success." While in the patients’ homes, I did videos about caregiving, and in 2020 when the pandemic hit the world, everyone was looking for medical answers to procedures, such as how to use a Hoyer lift. To this day, I have over 550 K views just on this video.

The first addition of Caregiver Success arrived at my door on February 20, 2020. A hummingbird is my logo as a remembrance of my father-in-law who died on August 31, the day a hummingbird was with me most of the day. I must say, I had many God Winks throughout this journey. This edition has more of a spiritual tone.

I hope and pray that this book gives you a good insight into the world of caregiving. Feel free to join me on my channel and allow me to become a part of your life as we all age together.
